【Original form】 Shrub, 2-4m high. The whole plant has latex, and other parts are glabrous except for the perianth hairs. Leaves opposite; petiole 3-7mm long; leaf blade hard papery, oblong, rarely oblong-lanceolate, 7-15cm long, 3-6cm wide, apex usually long-caudal acuminate or long-cuspidated, base nearly rounded or narrowly cuneate, entire; lateral veins 10-12 on each side; stipules broadly triangular-ovate. Cymes are axillary, usually dichotomous; flowers are 5-somere; buds are cylindrical; apex is nearly spherical; calyx is campanulate; sepals are quincunx-shaped, unequal in length; corolla is white, corolla lobes are oblong-lanceolate, margins are entire. The corolla tube is tubular; the stamens are inserted near the bulge at the throat of the corolla tube, and the anthers are lanceolate. The follicles are twin or one is undeveloped, oblong in shape, nearly fleshy, with a beak at the tip, and contain 1-4 seeds; the seeds are irregularly oval. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from August to April of the following year.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The roots are cylindrical or conical, 8-30cm long and 1-8m in diameter.
