Good news: Typhoon Makar is gone! Bad news: It’s coming again…

In the past two days, the super typhoon "Makar" has become the focus of people's attention.

On September 6, this year's 11th typhoon "Makar" made landfall in Wenchang, Hainan and Xuwen, Guangdong at super typhoon level, becoming the strongest autumn typhoon to land in my country since 1949. It remained at super typhoon level for 64 hours, causing serious disasters in many places. On the 7th, Typhoon "Makar" made landfall on the southern coast of Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam. The maximum wind force near the center was 17 when it landed. This was the third time that Typhoon "Makar" made landfall.

As of 12:00 on September 7, Typhoon Makar had caused varying degrees of disaster damage to 1.227 million people in Hainan, Guangdong and Guangxi. As of 18:00 local time on the 8th, Typhoon Makar had caused 21 deaths, 229 injuries and 3 missing persons in Vietnam.

According to the Central Meteorological Observatory, the strongest autumn typhoon "Makar" in my country's meteorological history was discontinued at 17:00 on September 8.

Is the typhoon coming again? What is the “rain” in the spiral rain belt?

Many people think that they can relax their vigilance after a typhoon makes landfall in another country, but they don’t know that its “aftereffects” and spiral rain belts should not be underestimated.

Spiral rain belts are rain clouds that move around the center of a typhoon. Their distribution patterns vary. Areas affected by the typhoon spiral rain belt often experience showers and gusty winds. The intensity and duration of precipitation change with the development of the rain belt. Small and medium-scale convective rain clusters generated in the rain belt can also cause extremely heavy rain.

Therefore, even if the main body of Typhoon "Makar" is not in our country, the spiral rain belts thrown out by its circulation are still a headache, because the spiral rain belts may bring about a "train effect", resulting in continuous heavy rainfall in the same place.

On the afternoon of the 7th, multiple spiral rain belts had formed on the east and north sides of Typhoon Makar, which continued to affect southern China. According to the Central Meteorological Observatory, the rainfall impact brought by the residual cloud system of Makar is still continuing. In the past day, parts of southeastern Yunnan, southwestern Guangxi, southern Guangdong and other places experienced heavy rain or torrential rain, and the local rainfall in Fangchenggang, Guangxi reached 243 mm.

The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that there will be heavy rainfall in southern Yunnan, western and southern Guangxi today and tomorrow, with torrential rain in some areas of southern Yunnan, and the local accumulated rainfall may exceed 200 mm. Due to the continuous rainfall, the meteorological risk of mountain torrents, geological disasters, and floods in small and medium rivers in the above-mentioned local areas is high.

The public should not let their guard down and avoid entering dangerous areas such as mountainous areas, river valleys, and waterside areas during rainfall. If they encounter road flooding, landslides, collapses, etc., do not rashly.

The passing of a typhoon does not mean the danger is over

These safety guidelines need to be mastered

■ When the typhoon signal is lifted, you can only return after the evacuation area is declared safe.

■ Do not use gas, tap water, electrical lines, etc. without knowing whether they are safe.

■ If there are damaged electrical wires, air conditioners, guardrails and other equipment and facilities in your home, ask certified professionals to repair them. When working outdoors at height, remind maintenance personnel to take safety precautions to prevent people and objects from falling from heights.

■ Rats, mosquitoes and flies are likely to breed in large numbers in the affected areas, which in turn may cause insect-borne infectious diseases such as dengue fever. Therefore, after the typhoon, it is important to clean the surrounding environment, clear the stagnant water in flower beds and waste tires, and prevent mosquitoes from breeding. At the same time, maintain good household hygiene and eliminate flies and cockroaches in a timely manner.

■ After a typhoon or flood, the number of patients with acute gastroenteritis often increases, mostly due to eating unclean food. Therefore, food soaked in water should not be eaten, except for canned food that is well sealed. In addition, do not eat dead livestock and poultry, aquatic products, and vegetables and fruits that have been flooded and rotten. It is best to boil drinking water for 5 to 10 minutes before drinking.
