When a person is crying, he starts to "twitch", not because of fear but because of "poisoning"

When we were young, we might be beaten by our parents for leaving our house keys at home; for breaking the doll of Xiaohua next door; for not doing our homework well; for stealing our cousin’s toys...

When we are beaten in various ways, we only do one thing.

That is - crying!

At this time, even if my parents glared at me and "threatened" me not to cry, even if I closed my mouth, my body would still twitch a few more times unconsciously.

When we were young, we all thought that we were shaking because we were too scared...

But when we grow up, we may hide in a corner and sob secretly because of work pressure, failed love, and trivialities in life, but while crying, our bodies will twitch unconsciously.

Think about it now, are we still crying because we are afraid of something?

Of course not. In fact, the real reason for the "convulsions" is respiratory alkalosis caused by excessive emotional excitement.

What is respiratory alkalosis? Simply put, respiratory alkalosis can occur when you breathe too fast.

When we grow up, we are no longer scolded by our parents, but yelled at by our boss.

Many people would choose to hide and cry.

As I cried, my breathing rate naturally increased, and I cried in the style of short inhalation and long exhalation.

Then why does crying too much cause “poisoning”?

We know that breathing is a process of gas exchange between the human body and the outside world.

Because you cry so hard, the gas exchange rate increases rapidly, and the body excretes excessive carbon dioxide all at once.

Carbon dioxide is an acidic oxide and can react with water in plasma to form carbonic acid.

Carbonic acid is electrolytically dissociated in plasma and exists in the form of bicarbonate ions and hydrogen ions.

In the case of excessive excretion of carbon dioxide, the bicarbonate ion content in the plasma will be reduced in response.

At this time, the partial pressure of carbon dioxide and the concentration of carbonate substances in the human body decrease, affecting the acid-base balance of plasma, which is specifically manifested as an increase in pH value (alkaline).

Changes in pH value affect the concentration of ions in the human body.

The human body's pH level normally remains between 7.35–7.45.

When the bicarbonate ion concentration decreases, the blood pH will increase. If the pH value is >7.45, respiratory alkalosis may occur.

Therefore, when the carbon dioxide in the human body is discharged from the body in large quantities, the concentration of bicarbonate ions will also decrease, and the blood will become alkaline. At this time, certain metal cations (calcium, potassium, sodium, etc.) in the blood will be more easily combined with proteins.

This in turn leads to a decrease in calcium ion concentration (the same applies to sodium ions and potassium ions), causing a mild electrolyte imbalance.

When there is insufficient calcium ion content in the plasma, muscles will twitch.

When the potassium ion content in plasma is insufficient, symptoms such as weakness and difficulty breathing will appear.

When there is a severe lack of sodium ions in plasma, people will experience symptoms such as headache and nausea.

Once a person experiences symptoms such as difficulty breathing, headache, and muscle cramps, his breathing will accelerate, which will undoubtedly aggravate the symptoms of respiratory alkalosis and lead to a vicious circle.

So what kind of people are prone to respiratory alkalosis?

First of all, children are just like us when we were beaten as children. Because children are ignorant and have weak emotional control ability, they will cry harder and harder, and they may even be unable to breathe in the end. Parents need to pay attention.

Pregnancy may also cause respiratory alkalosis because women tend to breathe more rapidly during the second trimester due to the metabolic demands of the growing fetus.

and patients who are on a ventilator for respiratory support.

So what if we have mild respiratory alkalosis?

There is a very simple and crude method: use a larger paper bag or other items with ventilation at one end and good sealing, cover your nose and mouth, and breathe again to form a respiratory dead loop, and inhale the exhaled carbon dioxide again.

But if the case is serious, you still need to be sent to the hospital for treatment.

Every year, many people suffer from respiratory alkalosis due to quarrels or criticisms, and some even need hospital treatment. At first, we just want to vent our emotions, but in the end, we are still tortured by our emotions.

Therefore, young people today should stop crying secretly and eat more when they are unhappy.
