Millions of years of biological evolution have gradually formed a 24-hour circadian rhythm for humans, so we have become accustomed to a life pattern of working at sunrise and resting at sunset, of course, the starting time is slightly flexible. According to the "2020 Chinese Sleep Quality Report", the average daily sleep time of Chinese people is 6.82 hours, and the concentrated sleep period is about 23:00-6:00.

There are already a lot of studies that prove that late sleepers cannot have the same sleep quality as early sleepers. At the same time, the integrity of white matter in late sleepers is lower than that of early sleepers, which will cause changes in cognitive function and make them more susceptible to depression. In addition, the expression of genes related to physiological rhythms in the body will also decrease accordingly when living a day-night reversal. Although the consequences are unclear, they will definitely have negative effects.

How many hours of sleep a day is considered enough sleep? This question also varies from person to person. 8 hours is just a general recommendation, not the standard sleep time for everyone. We don’t need to deliberately set the start time of sleep. As long as the body can function freely, that is your optimal sleep time.
