Another study, which surveyed more than 90,000 people in 18 countries, found that Chinese people are a nation that loves salt the most.

Its data shows that 80% of Chinese people consume more than 12.5g of salt per day.

The impact of high salt on the respiratory tract is actually an issue that is easily overlooked. A high-salt diet leads to excessive sodium concentration in the blood, which inhibits the reproduction of mucosal epithelial cells.

This will reduce the ability of the upper respiratory tract mucosa to resist disease invasion, making it easier for various bacteria and viruses to enter.

But this is still the first step. Because of excessive sodium intake, excessive sodium ions will compete with calcium ions during renal tubular reabsorption, leading to increased calcium excretion.

Over time, insufficient blood calcium will disrupt the balance between bone calcium and blood calcium, eventually leading to calcium deficiency in the body and osteoporosis.

4. Prone to wrinkles

The sodium ions in table salt actually exist in human blood and body fluids, and play a role in maintaining the body's osmotic pressure, acid-base balance and water balance.

When too much salt, or sodium ions, is consumed, facial cells will lose water, causing skin aging, and over time wrinkles will increase.

Moreover, people who eat too much salt will have an increased burden on their kidneys and heart. Patients with edema and ascites should pay special attention.
