Ministry of Commerce: China's online retail market development report for the first quarter of 2023

In the first quarter of 2023, the national online retail sales reached 3.29 trillion yuan , an increase of 8.6% year-on-year, helping the consumer market continue to recover.

In the first quarter, online retail sales of physical goods amounted to 2.78 trillion yuan , up 7.3% year-on-year, accounting for 24.2% of the total retail sales of consumer goods, up 1 percentage point from the same period last year, driving the total retail sales of consumer goods to increase by 1.7 percentage points .

In the first quarter, B2C online retail sales increased by 9.5% year-on-year, accounting for 79.8% of online retail sales; C2C online retail sales increased by 5.3% year-on-year, accounting for 20.2% of online retail sales.

In the first quarter, online retail sales in the eastern, central, western and northeastern regions accounted for 83.5% , 9.1% , 5.9% and 1.5% of the national total, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 8.6% , 11.3% , 6.9% and 3.7% , respectively.

In the first quarter, among the online retail sales of physical goods, food, clothing and daily necessities increased by 7.3% , 8.6% and 6.9% respectively .
