Monetate: Survey shows Mac users are more crazy about online shopping

Nowadays, many users are getting more and more accustomed to completing various tasks and operations on mobile devices such as iPhone and iPad, because the screens of these devices are large enough and users are very comfortable browsing content on these devices. In addition, users are getting more and more accustomed to online shopping on these mobile devices. I don’t know if you have formed this habit. However, according to the latest data released by Monetate’s quarterly e-commerce report, some users prefer to shop on laptops or desktop computers, especially when buying more expensive products. In addition, among so many platform users, Mac users are the most willing to spend money on online shopping.

Monetate surveyed millions of online shopping sessions around the world and found that users who shopped on desktop devices, especially Mac users, spent more money on online shopping than those who shopped on smartphones and tablets.

Data shows that the average online shopping expenditure of Mac users is $148, the average of Windows users is $140, the average of Linux users is $114, the average of iOS users is $110, the average of Chrome OS users is $110, and the average of Android and Windows Phone users is $91 and $80 respectively.

Apple users have always given us the impression that they are very "rich" and willing to spend money. In addition to the above survey, we have also seen a lot of Apple users and other users spend money on shopping or other aspects.

For example, data released by IBM earlier this year showed that during Christmas 2014, iOS accounted for 27% of all online sales, four times the Android platform, which accounted for only 7.6% of sales. During the earlier "Black Friday" shopping spree, iOS users accounted for 25% of total online purchases, while Android accounted for less than 7%. In addition, the average purchase price of iOS users was higher, reaching $118.57, while the average purchase price of Android users was only $95.25.

However, the reason for such a significant difference may be that Apple platform has more young users. Analysis company comScore said in a survey report that iPhone and iPad users in the United States are younger than Android users. Data shows that among the middle-aged and young people aged 18-34, the proportion of iPhone users is 43%. In contrast, the proportion of Android smartphone users is 39%. The same is true for tablets. Among the middle-aged and young people aged 18-34, the proportion of iPad users is 38%, while the proportion of Android tablet users is only 34%.

For the same reason, Apple users and Android users have very different attitudes towards in-app purchases. According to a survey report by Swrve, a mobile app data analysis platform, iOS users contribute 45% more to in-app purchase revenue than Android users. Not only are users willing to spend 10% more on iOS, but users who are more willing to make any purchases on iOS apps are also 32% more than Android users.

Do you prefer to shop on mobile devices or desktop devices? Do you spend the same amount when shopping on both platforms?
