[Other names] Alpine knotweed fern, small cyperus, cockfighting grass

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb or rhizome of Pteris cretica, a plant of the Pteridaceae family.

【Original morphology】Plant height 30-45cm. With erect or ascending rhizomes. Leaves are clustered and dimorphic; the nutrient petiole is 14-18cm long, triangular at the base, with 1-2 pairs of air sacs, slightly triangular or semicircular upwards; the leaf blade is narrowly triangular or ovate-lanceolate, 17-25cm long, 8-11cm wide at the base, and pinnately divided once; the pinnae are papery, 15-20 pairs, alternate, 4-6cm long, 8-13mm wide, both above and below are green, gradually pointed, slightly curved upwards to be sickle-lanceolate, with an asymmetrical base, the upper side extending along the rachis, the lower side rounded, the margin nearly entire or serrated; the leaf veins are pinnate, and the lateral veins are single or dichotomous. The petiole of the sporophyll is 30-40cm long; the leaf blade is pinnate, 14-22cm long and 4-6cm wide; there are 15-25 pairs of pinnae, which are extremely contracted and linear, 5-7cm long and 2-3mm wide; the lateral veins are usually bifurcated and extend to 1/2 of the leaf edge. Sporangia are borne on the tops of the veinlets and cover the underside of the pinnae when mature.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing under evergreen broad-leaved forests or coniferous forests and beside streams at an altitude of 100-1800m.
