ChannelAdvisor: Amazon sales increased 82% in September 2011

On October 9, 2011, ChannelAdvisor released the September 2011 same-store sales report for retailers, as well as sales data from search engines and comparison shopping websites.

Most retailers had strong sales in September 2011. Amazon's sales grew 82%, mainly driven by the launch of the Kindle Fire tablet last week. eBay's sales in September grew 15% year-on-year, a slight decline from the 17.8% growth in August.

Comparison shopping sites continued to see their sales decline slow, falling just 11% in September, and are looking to flatten out during the holiday season.

The main news includes Google's new product search service, which will be launched on September 22, so users can find more relevant data during the holiday season. Search site sales performed well in September, up 20.1%.

Amazon's holiday season sales are expected to continue to be strong, with fourth-quarter sales expected to increase 80% year-on-year, mainly driven by the Thanksgiving shopping season and the hot sales of Kindle Fire.

eBay's sales growth should be in line with the growth of e-commerce sales. The company's sales performance fluctuates more than Amazon, and positive factors include mobile product/tablet sales, advertising activities, and the participation of large merchants. Disadvantages include weak consumer spending momentum and poor apparel sales. As for comparison shopping sites, sales may be flat or slightly higher during the holiday season as their decline gradually slows. On the search site side, Google will launch a large number of new products and services, which will achieve 20%-25% year-on-year sales growth during the holiday season.
