[Preparation method] Place acetic acid in a magnetic dish, add lead oxide, stir well, dissolve it in a slightly warm solution, filter it while it is still hot, and let it cool to precipitate lead acetate crystals. Then place it on a funnel, drip off the liquid, spread it on paper, and dry it at room temperature. If you want to refine it, you can dissolve this crude product in boiling water of the same volume, add a little dilute acetic acid, filter it while it is hot, let it cool and crystallize, and you will get pure lead frost.

【Properties】White needle-shaped or plate-shaped crystal blocks. Metallic luster. Easy to weather in dry air. It is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, and poorly soluble in ether. Its aqueous solution has a sweet taste and is extremely toxic. When added with ferric chloride solution, white lead chloride precipitate is produced and the supernatant produces red ferric acetate.

【Chemical composition】 The main ingredient is lead acetate. Note: The raw materials of lead frost recorded in "Compendium of Materia Medica" include lead and vinegar, as well as a small amount of mercury. Therefore, the ingredients of its products may contain trace amounts of mercury in addition to lead acetate.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet and sour, cold, poisonous.

【Functions and indications】It can eliminate phlegm, calm the nerves, stop nosebleeds, and heal sores. Treat epilepsy, hot phlegm, epistaxis, throat congestion, tooth decay, mouth sores and ulcers.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: grind into powder, 3-5 li; or make into pills or powder. For external use: grind into powder and sprinkle or apply externally as solution.

[Note] Do not take this medicine if you have weak spleen and stomach or cough caused by wind and cold. Overdose can cause lead poisoning.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat children's fright and fever, calm the mind: lead frost 0.5 liang (finely ground), ginseng 0.5 liang (remove the reed head), poria 0.5 liang, cinnabar 0.5 liang (grind finely, rinse with water), musk 1 fen (finely ground).
