【English name】Snake

[Other names] Grass snake, yellow snake, water snake, water snake, long snake

[Source] Medicinal material source: The whole body of the mouse snake, a Colubridae animal, without its internal organs.

[Original form] Mouse snake, total length is over 2m. The back is yellowish brown with irregular black horizontal spots on the back of the body; the head is dark brown; the belly is yellowish white. 3 cheek scales, 8 upper lip scales, 2 anterior eye scales, 2 posterior eye scales; 2 anterior temporal scales, 2 posterior temporal scales (3). There are 18-21 rows of body scales in the neck, 15-17 rows in the middle of the body, and 14 rows in front of the anus. The scales in the middle of the back are ridged, and the number of ridges on the back of the body increases to 4-6 rows. Belly scales: 190-201; tail scales: 105-1416 in males and 66-170 in females.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Lives in mountainous areas and plains; violent in nature. It feeds on toads, frogs, lizards, birds and rodents.

【Properties】Properties identification: This product is disc-shaped. The total diameter is 20-60mm, the head is centrally elliptical, dark brown, the snout is blunt and not upturned, the back is gray-brown with spots. The tail is long and slender, tapering. The dorsal scales are yellowish brown, oval in shape, 6.5-7mm long and 3.5-4.5mm wide. The upper edge is neat, with two terminal pits at the tip, which are round, and the lower edge is irregular. The scales on the midline of the snake's back have ridges, while most do not have ridges. The surface of fresh scales is smooth, flat and translucent. It has a fishy smell and a salty taste.

[Chemical composition] Mouse snake contains parathyroid extract which has antihypertensive effect. The gallbladder is rich in calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper and iron, among which calcium is the main component, followed by magnesium.

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and relieve pain; relax muscles and tendons and dredge meridians. Mainly used for rheumatic arthralgia; limb numbness; paralysis
