[Original form] Annual herb, 20 to 40 cm high. Stems erect or oblique, thin and weak. The leaves are linear, flat, 5 to 15 mm long and 2.5 to 5 mm wide, rough on the upper side and with glands on the main veins and edges on the lower side; the leaf sheaths also have glandular dots, especially on the main veins. Except for the hairs at the sheath mouth, there are also sparse long soft hairs between the veins and on the edges; the ligule is a circle of cilia. Inflorescence spreading, solitary branches; spikelets linear-oblong, dark green or light green, containing 4 to many florets, spikelet stalk glandular; glumes acute, nearly equal or first glume slightly shorter; lemma broadly ovate, obtuse at apex, palea slightly shorter than lemma, persistent. Caryopsis nearly spherical. Flowering period is from June to July.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in barren fields, grasslands and roadsides. Distributed in Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hebei, Henan, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and other places.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, detoxifies, relieves wind and promotes urination. Treat keratitis, conjunctivitis, urinary tract infection, and impetigo.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 2 liang; or grind into powder. For external use: decoct in water and wash.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating eye cloudiness, inflammation of the cornea or conjunctiva: 1 liang of small teff. Decoction in water and use for external washing.
