[Source] The whole herb and rhizome of Begonia peltata, a plant of the Begoniaceae family. Collected in autumn.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The rhizome is horizontal, noded and scaly. Leaves grow from the roots; shield-shaped oblong-ovate, 7-12 cm long, 5-7 cm wide, caudate-acuminate at the apex, rounded at the base, entire or wavy, purple beneath; petiole 5-15 cm long, red, glabrous. The flower stem is red, leafless, glabrous, and longer than the petiole; the flowers are monoecious, with dichotomous cymes and terminal inflorescences; the male flowers are light pink, with 4 perianths, 2 of which are large, ovate, 1.5-1.8 cm long, and 2 are small, lanceolate, 6 mm long, with many stamens; the female flowers have 2 round-ovate perianths, a 3-chambered ovary with 3 wings of unequal size, and 3 styles.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in shade. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou and other places.

【Functions and indications】 "Guizhou Folk Prescriptions and Medicines Collection": "It can regulate menstruation, relax muscles and activate blood circulation. It can treat injuries from falls, reduce swelling, and remove blood stasis."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3 to 5 qian; or soaked in wine. For external use: mash and apply.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat injuries from falls: 2 qian of dried climbing monkey, 2 qian of epimedium, 2 qian of Eucommia ulmoides, 2 qian of red Achyranthes bidentata, 2 qian of red hemp, 2 qian of Sargentodoxa chinensis, 2 qian of black bone, 2 qian of water wax gourd, 2 qian of Yama Thorn, 2 qian of mouse droppings, 2 qian of four tiles, 2 qian of Panax notoginseng, 2 qian of a mouthful of blood, 2 qian of iron chopsticks, 1 qian of Ligusticum chuanxiong, 2 qian of Stretching Grass. Carry two kilograms of wine and drink a small cup before going to bed every night.
