Flowers are axillary, or in racemes at the top; pedicel 1-3 cm long; calyx 5-lobed, green or lavender, membranous, with 5 veins, lobes short-pointed; corolla tube cylindrical, about 8 mm long, 2-lipped, upper lip 2-lobed, lower lip 3-lobed, with 4 purple stamens; ovary superior. The capsule is oblong or ovate and hidden in the persistent calyx. Flowering period is July.

[Habitat distribution] Grown by ditches and in paddy fields. Distributed in southern my country.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, removes dampness and detoxifies. Treat colds, acute and chronic bacillary dysentery, enteritis, carbuncles, furuncles and boils.

[Usage and Dosage] For internal use: decoct in water, 1-3 qian (1-2 liang for fresh); grind into powder or soak in wine. For external use: mash and apply.
