【Other name】 Tree leek

[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Pteris gracilis, a plant of the Pterisaceae family.

【Original morphology】Plant height 15-30cm. The rhizome is horizontal, densely covered with gray-brown, iridescent, drill-lanceolate scales, fibrous at the tip and sparsely serrated at the edges. Leaves are subspermous; petioles are short, slender, 2-4cm long, and densely scaled at the base; leaf blades are papery, glabrous, linear, 10-25cm long, 1-3mm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, gradually narrowed at the base and extending downward to the petiole, with entire margin; midrib is not very obvious or slightly concave above, raised below, and lateral veins are obliquely upward and connected to the marginal veins to form a mesh. The sporangium is borne in a shallow groove in the leaf margin, more or less away from the midrib, and the mesophyll between the midrib and the lateral veins is flat, covered by the recurved leaf margin when young, and exposed when mature.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: epiphytic on tree trunks or rocks in forests at an altitude of 200-3200m.

[Properties] Identification: The rhizome is densely covered with scales; the scales are drill-shaped, gray-brown with iridescent luster, and have sparse serrations on the edges. The petiole is short and slender; the leaf blade is papery, linear, 1-3mm wide, with the base extending below the petiole, the main vein slightly concave above and raised below, and the lateral veins obliquely connected to the marginal veins to form a mesh. The sporangium clusters are located on the leaf margins, mostly away from the midrib. Slight smell, slightly astringent taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; slightly warm

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation and dispel wind; regulate qi and relieve pain. Mainly used for traumatic injuries; pain and numbness of tendons and bones; stomach pain; infantile convulsions

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 10-15g. For external use: Take appropriate amount of fresh product and mash it for application.
