[Source] Medicinal material source: the rhizome or whole herb of the sterile red plant of the Lamiaceae family.

[Original form] Sterile red, perennial herb, 30-70cm high. The rhizome is woody, tuberous, with red eyes, and from which one or more stems grow. Usually unbranched, quadrangular; covered with white sugar-like short hairs and mixed with articulated hairs. Leaves are opposite, narrow or broadly ovate, 2.5-6cm long, 1.4-3.8cm wide, with sharp or rarely obtuse apex, cuneate base, sessile, or gradually narrowed into a winged pseudopetiole, with crenate margin, densely or sparsely strigose hairs above, densely covered with purple glandular dots below, especially with short, stiff hairs on the veins. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : The nutlets are small, oval, slightly flat, and dark brown. Flowering and fruiting period is August to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows under pine forests or in grass.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain rabyuennane A, B, C, oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, crataegolic acid, stigmasterol and β-sitosterol.

【Nature and flavor】 Spicy; bitter; slightly warm

【Functions and indications】 Expel wind and dampness; promote blood circulation and regulate menstruation; detoxify and reduce swelling. It is mainly used to treat colds, rheumatic bone pain, hemiplegia, food stagnation, epigastric pain, dysentery, jaundice, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, metrorrhagia, scrofula, syphilis, sores, single-board rash, rubella, scabies, injuries from falls, rabies, and poisonous snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 6-15g; or grind into powder; or soak in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application; or decoct it in water for washing.
