[Source] It is the flower of the water sunflower of the Asteraceae plant. Harvested in summer.

[Original morphology] Perennial herb, 50 to 100 cm tall, the whole plant is covered with coarse hairs. Roots numerous, clustered. The stem is erect, branched at the top, green with purple spots. Simple leaves are alternate, ovate-lanceolate or oblong, 3.5-7 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, broadly cuneate at the base, serrated at the margin, with protruding veins on the back and 5-6 pairs of lateral veins; petiole is short, base clasping the stem. The head inflorescence is terminal; the involucre is hemispherical, with 3 to 4 rows of bracts, linear-lanceolate, and hairy; the ligulate flowers are yellow, linear, and 3-toothed at the apex; the tubular flowers are yellow and bisexual. Achenes are narrow and ridged, with prickly prickles. Flowering period is summer.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in plains, wet fields, and roadsides. Distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan and other places.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, cool.

【Functions and indications】Relieves exterior symptoms and resolves phlegm. Treat colds, headaches, chest tightness, coughs and asthma.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 4 qian.

[Additional prescription] For treating cough with excessive sputum, chest fullness and belching: take 3 grams of water calamus, decocted in water and taken orally. (Yunnan Chinese Herbal Medicine)
