The flowers are unisexual, monoecious, with axillary spikes up to 20 cm long; the female flower clusters are located above the male flower clusters; the flowers are small, green, the male flower calyx has 4 lobes, and 2 to 4 stamens; the female flower clusters are dense, spherical, about 3.5 mm in diameter, with 1 style, and the stigma is linear and persistent. Achenes are small, obovate, with white hairs, and most of them are gathered into balls. Flowering period is June. Fruiting period is September.

[Habitat distribution] Growing by ditches, hillsides or forest edges. Distributed in Jiangxi, Hunan, Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, Guizhou, Hubei, Shandong and Jiangsu.
