[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Meconopsis quinquenervata, a plant of the Poppy family.

[Original morphology] Meconopsis quinqueneri is a perennial herb, 30-60cm tall, with persistent leaf bases at the base. The whole plant is densely covered with light yellow or brown hard hairs and has yellow sap. The roots are fibrous. The leaves are basal and rosette-shaped; the petiole is 3-6cm long; the leaf blade is obovate to lanceolate, 2-9cm long, 1-3cm wide, with an acute or obtuse apex, a gradually narrowed base and extending down to the base of the petiole, entire, and densely covered with light yellow or brown stiff hairs on both sides. 1-3 flowers, emerging from the leaves, densely covered with brownish-yellow bristles; flowers drooping, solitary at the top of the flowering season; 2 sepals, ovate, densely covered with bristles, falling early; 4-6 petals, light blue or purple, obovate or nearly round, 3-4cm long, 2.5-3.7cm wide; many stamens, anthers oblong, light yellow; ovary spherical, ovoid or oblong, densely covered with branched bristles, short style, stigma capitate. The capsule is elliptical or oblong-elliptical, 1.5-2.5cm long, densely covered with stiff hairs, with 3-6 lobes split longitudinally from the tip downwards. Seeds numerous, narrowly ovate, small, dark brown. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in alpine grasslands or shady slope shrubs at an altitude of 2300-4000m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; slightly sweet; cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and dampness; relieves cough and asthma; relieves pain. It is used for damp-heat jaundice; edema; cough and asthma due to lung heat; hot and sore throat; stomachache; infantile convulsions

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3-6g; or grind the flowers into powder, 1.5-3g.
