[Other names] Qingteng, rolling dragon, Qingteng Xixin

[Source] It is the root of the plant Cyperus rotundus of the Menispermaceae family. Available all year round.

[Original form] A winding vine. The roots are thick, cylindrical, gray-brown in appearance, and slightly twisted. The stem is thin and hard, with longitudinal grooves and covered with fine yellow hairs. The leaves are alternate, membranous, ovate-triangular, 5-6 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, with pointed or slightly obtuse apex, truncate or slightly cordate base, entire margin, finely pubescent on both sides, with 5-7 palmate veins; the petiole is shorter than the leaf blade, peltate, and covered with yellow pubescence. Flowers are unisexual and dioecious; they are in axillary panicles; the male flower calyx is bell-shaped, green or light purple. The drupe is oblate and covered with hard hairs.

[Habitat distribution] Grown on roadsides and in sandy soil in mountains. Distributed in Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi.

【Nature and flavor】Warm in nature, bitter and spicy in taste.

[Functions and indications] Soothes qi and relieves pain, detoxifies snake venom, treats heart and stomach pain, sha, abdominal pain and diarrhea, and snake bites.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 2 to 5 qian; grind into powder, 0.5 to 1.5 qian. For external use: grind into powder and apply on skin.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat stomach pain: 2 qian of Shaoqingtengxiang, 1 qian each of Qingmuxiang, Litsea cubeba and fennel root. Grind them into powder and take one and a half coins each time with warm wine.
