【Other names】 Jiabeng, Yangshe Tree

[Source] Medicinal material source: leaves or roots of Acanthus serrata, a plant of the Achyranthes family.

【Original form】 Evergreen tree. The twigs are thick, with hollow pith and transverse septa; the buds, young branches, young petioles, bracts and bracteoles are all covered with reddish-brown hairs. Leaves are alternate; petioles have longitudinal grooves, 1.5-2.5cm long; leaf blades are thick leathery, shiny on the surface, pink-brown on the back, lanceolate-elliptic or narrowly oblong-elliptic, 6-20cm long, 2-5cm wide, with acute or short acuminate apex, broadly cuneate or rounded base, usually entire, rarely with fine teeth; midrib is concave on the surface and obviously convex on the back, with 9-15 lateral veins on each side, lateral veins and reticulate veins are concave on the surface and not obvious on the back. The cyme is borne on the leaf scars of biennial branches; the bracts are round, 3-4mm in diameter, and ciliate; the calyx is about 3mm long, the lobes are semicircular, less than 1mm long, and have long ciliate margins; the corolla is white, 7-8mm long, 5 deeply divided almost to the base, the lobes are elliptical, and ciliate at the tip; the stamens are 18-25, and the filaments are fused into 5 lobes at the base; the disk is cylindrical and glabrous; the ovary has 3 chambers. The drupe is narrowly ovate-columnar, about 1 cm long, with erect persistent calyx lobes at the tip; the kernel has 6-8 longitudinal ridges. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is June.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in mountains at about 1100m above sea level, roadsides, and sparse woods.

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation; stop bleeding. Mainly traumatic injury; internal bleeding

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
