[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole plant of Verbenaceae.

[Original form] Qianjiecao, an upright dwarf subshrub, about several centimeters high, rarely up to 15cm. The roots are lignified, irregularly blocky, cylindrical or curved, yellow-brown, and have longitudinal stripes. The stem is about 9 cm high, sparsely covered with yellow-brown soft hairs or glabrous. Leaves are 2 (-4) pairs, with very short or up to 6.5cm long internodes; leaf blades are papery, obovate-oblong, spoon-shaped or nearly rounded, of varying sizes, 4-14cm long, 2-6cm wide, base cuneate, with irregular sparse teeth on the margin, rarely with small teeth only on the upper part or nearly entire, apex obtuse, both surfaces sparsely covered with short soft hairs and golden glandular dots. The corymbose cyme is terminal, small and dense, about 1.5cm long and wide, rarely up to 3-5cm long, and covered with short soft hairs; the inflorescence stalk is 0.5-1.3cm long, densely covered with fine soft hairs; the bracts are small, linear to lanceolate, about 1mm long; the calyx is cup-shaped, about 2.5mm long, with 5 shallow lobes at the apex, slightly two-lipped, the lobes are obtuse triangular, and covered with sparse hairs on the outside; there are 4 stamens, shorter than the corolla. The drupe is spherical or obovate, with a diameter of 4-5mm. Fruiting period is June.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: It is endemic to frequently burned areas at an altitude of 200-1670m.

[Chemical composition] The root nodes contain pygmacone, pygmaercin B, C, A and 5,6-didehy-dropygmaeocin A, sugiol, pygmaeocine E, pygmaeoherin, sirutekkone, bharangin, isobha-rangin, bharanginin, feruginol and bharangifuran.

【Nature and flavor】 Slightly bitter; sweet; slightly warm

【Functions and indications】 Promote blood circulation and relieve pain; dispel wind and dampness; strengthen the spleen and aid digestion. Mainly used for traumatic injuries; rheumatic pain; stomach pain; indigestion; diarrhea; sores and swelling

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 15-30g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
