[Source] The flowers of the Rosa multiflora plant of the Rosaceae family. When the flowers are in full bloom from May to June, pick them on a sunny day and dry them in the sun.

[Original form] Multi-flowered rose, also known as: wall hemp, ox thorn, wall rose (Ben Jing), Niu Le, mountain jujube (Wu Pu Materia Medica), rose, mountain thorn, rose (Bie Lu), jade chicken seedling (Qing Yi Lu), thorny Mi (Jiuhuang Materia Medica), thorn red, wild rose (Qunfang Pu), hooked thorn, monk head, seven sisters.

[Habitat distribution] It mostly grows in bushes on roadsides, beside fields or in hilly areas. It is distributed in Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Xinjiang and other places. It is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Jiangsu and other places.

【Properties】 Most of the dried flowers are broken and incomplete. The calyx is lanceolate, with yellow-white or brown back, sparsely covered with spiny hairs, no hairs or with a few hairs, and the inner surface is densely covered with white hairs; the petals are triangular-ovate, yellow-white to brown, mostly wrinkled and curled, with obvious veins; the stamens are numerous, yellow, and curled into a ball; the style is prominent and hairless; the receptacle is pot-shaped, with a brown-red surface, and a fruit stalk of varying lengths at the base. The smell is faint and the taste is slightly bitter. The best ones are those without receptacles and leaves, with complete white petals.

[Chemical composition] The flowers contain astragaloside and about 0.02-0.03% volatile oil.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, cool.

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat, harmonizes the stomach, and stops bleeding. Treats vomiting blood due to heatstroke, thirst, diarrhea, malaria, and bleeding from knife wounds.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 2 qian. For external use: grind into powder and sprinkle.
