[Original form] Tripterygium wilfordii is a herbaceous plant, 5-15cm high. The stem is slender, slightly quadrangular, with narrow wings on the ridges, and covered with spreading glandular hairs and fine hairs. The petiole is 1-3mm long and covered with glandular hairs. The leaf blade is membranous, narrowly elliptic to ovate, with a short acuminate apex and a cuneate base. It is (5-)10-25mm long and (3-)4-7mm wide. The margin is finely serrated with prickles at the tip of the teeth. The leaf surface is covered with scattered long and coarse hairs. The middle and lateral veins are slightly raised. The back surface only has scattered long and coarse hairs on the veins, and the rest is glabrous or has chaff. The middle and lateral veins are raised. There are 2 pairs of lateral veins, one of which is basal. The inflorescence is scorpion-shaped cyme, terminal, with 2-5 flowers, 1-2.5cm long, covered with flat glandular hairs; the peduncle is 8-15mm long, the pedicel is 1-5mm long, covered with sparse glandular hairs, and slightly triangular; the calyx is campanulate-tubular, about 4mm long, slightly triangular, with 6 veins, often only covered with sparse glandular hairs on the veins, the lobes are very short, broadly ovate-triangular; the petals are pink, purple-red or light blue, oblong-elliptical, with acute apex, one side oblique, and sparse glandular hairs on the outside midrib; the stamens are 3, equal in length, the filaments are nearly equal in length to the anthers, the anthers are small, broadly ovate, about 1.8mm long, forked at the base, and the connective is not extended; the ovary is urceolate, and the membranous crown at the apex is slightly 3-lobed. Capsule cylindrical-conical, slightly 3-ribbed, about 4mm long, 2mm wide, adnate to persistent calyx; persistent calyx covered with sparse glandular hairs and with 6 veins. The flowering period is from August to October, and the fruiting period is from October to December.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing under pine forests at an altitude of 800-1800m, in forest open spaces, in grass on the roadside at the edge of the forest, and in grasslands.
