[Original form] Deciduous tree, 10-30m high. The bark is thick, gray, and deeply fissured. The branches are dark brown with gray-yellow lenticels; the pith is lamellar; the winter buds are exposed and densely covered with brown scales. Odd-pinnate compound leaves, 15-30m long, with 7-9 (rarely 5-11) leaflets; leaf blades are leathery, oblong-ovate to broadly lanceolate, 5-14cm long, 2-6cm wide, acute or acuminate at the apex, oblique at the base, with sharp serrations on the edges, with peltate glands on the upper side, and obvious reticulate veins on the lower side, with fine gray scales and peltate glands. Flowers are unisexual and dioecious; male catkins are 3 or rarely 2-4 in a bundle, 7-18cm long, clustered on short pedicels, male flower bracts are small and inconspicuous, 2 bracteoles are similar in shape to 2-3 tepals, 20-30 stamens, sometimes only 12; female catkins are solitary and terminal, with 7-10 female flowers, female bracts and 2 bracteoles attached to the middle of the ovary, 4 tepals, born at the upper end of the ovary, ovary inferior, style short, stigma 2-lobed, lobes feathery. The infructescence is 20-30cm long, nut-like, oblate, about 7mm in diameter, with leathery disc-shaped wings formed by bracts and bracteoles around the middle, and 4 persistent tepals and styles at the tip. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is July-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in valley river banks or moist forests at an altitude of 500-2500m.
