[Original form] Deciduous tree, 20-25m high. The bark is grayish white, smooth when young and shallowly cracked when old. Branchlets shortly glandular, with conspicuous lobes and lenticels; winter buds with bud scales; pith white, lamellar. Odd-pinnate compound leaves, alternate, 40-50cm long, with 5-9 leaflets, sometimes 13, the tip of which is often larger, elliptic-ovate to oblong, 6-15cm long, 3-6cm wide, obtuse or acute at the tip, oblique, nearly rounded at the base, entire, dark green and shiny on the surface, light green on the back, with 11-9 pairs of lateral veins, and a tuft of short soft hairs in the vein axils. The flowers are unisexual, monoecious, and open at the same time as the leaves. The male catkins are axillary, drooping, 5-10 cm long, with small and dense flowers. The male flowers have 1 oblong bract, 2 long ovate bracteoles, 1-4 tepals, all covered with glandular hairs, and 6-30 stamens. The female inflorescence is spike-shaped, erect, grown at the top of young branches, usually with 1-3 female flowers, 3 involucral bracts, oblong, attached to the ovary, and enlarged with the ovary after flowering; the perianth is 4-lobed, the lobes are linear, higher than the involucral bracts; the ovary is inferior, composed of 2 carpels, the style is short, and the stigma is 2-lobed, feathery, and bright red. The fruit is nearly spherical, drupe-like, 4-6cm in diameter, with a green exocarp developed from the involucral bracts and perianth, with spots on the surface, fleshy mesocarp with irregular cracking, and bony endocarp with an uneven surface, two longitudinal ridges, and a short pointed tip. The endocarp wall has gaps and wrinkles, the septum is relatively thin, and there are no gaps inside. The flowering period is May-June, and the fruiting period is September-October.
