[Alias] Perilla frutescens (Sichuan Chinese Materia Medica).

[Source] It is the roots and old stems near the roots of Perilla frutescens, Perilla frutescens or Perilla frutescens of the Lamiaceae family. Harvest in autumn, pull up the whole plant of perilla or white basil, cut off the root head, shake off the mud and sand, and dry it in the sun.

[Habitat distribution] Produced in Sichuan, Hunan, Jiangsu and other places.

[Properties] Dry root head with fibrous roots, but the ends are mostly broken off. The above-ground stem is about 3 to 5 cm long, and the white pith can be seen from the cut section. It has a scent of basil, but not too strong. The best ones are those with old stems, large heads, few fibrous roots and fragrant smell.

[Preparation] Soak in water until soft, then slice and dry in the sun.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 2 to 4 qian. For external use: decoct in water and wash.
