[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the Lamiaceae plant.

[Original form] Perennial herb or shrub, 0.5-2m high. The rhizome is lignified. Stem erect, quadrangular, puberulous or nearly glabrous. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 1-5.5cm long, pubescent; leaf blade is broadly ovate or broadly triangular-ovate, 3-9cm long, 1.5-6cm wide, acuminate at apex, broadly cuneate at base, gradually narrowing, margin crenate above base, sparsely strigose and glandular above, short stiff hairs along veins below. The dichotomous cymes are 3-5 flowers, forming a terminal or ventral narrow panicle, 5-15cm long; the bracts are subulate, less than 1mm long; the calyx is bell-shaped, about 1.5mm long, with fine soft hairs and glandular dots on the outside, and glabrous inside, with 5 calyx teeth, 3 small teeth on the upper lip, and 2 slightly larger teeth on the lower lip. The calyx enlarges when fruiting; the corolla is purple or purple-blue, about 6mm long, with fine soft hairs on the outside, the upper lip is reflexed, with 4 circular fissures at the apex, and the lower lip is longer than the corolla tube, concave and boat-shaped; the stamens are 4, didyna, enclosed, and slightly hairy at the bottom; the ovary is 4-lobed, the style is enclosed or slightly exposed, and the stigma is 2-lobed; the disk is cup-shaped. Nutlets obovoid, brown. The flowering period is from October to February of the following year, and the fruiting period is from November to March of the following year.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on grass slopes, thickets, open spaces in forests, roadsides, streams, river banks, forest edges or evergreen broad-leaved forests at an altitude of 650-2700m.
