[Original form] Perennial climbing herb. The rhizome is slightly thick and fat, with a diameter of 4 to 8 mm. Stems slender, twining or creeping. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are slightly shorter than leaf blades; leaf blades are halberd-shaped or 3-lobed, 3.5-8 cm long and 1-3 cm wide, with the middle lobe being the largest, the side lobes being shorter and further lobed into 2 shallow lobes, with pointed apex, entire or wavy margins, and heart-shaped base. Flowers are axillary, solitary, with pedicels slightly longer than petioles; bracts are 2, ovate, relatively large, surrounding the calyx, persistent; calyx lobes are oblong, smooth; corolla is funnel-shaped, 2 to 4 cm long, and light reddish white; stamens are 5, enclosed; pistil is 1, ovary is 1-chambered, style is simple, and stigma is 2-lobed. The capsule is oval, slightly pointed, smooth, and contains 4 black seeds. Flowering period is from May to August. The fruiting period is from August to October.

[Habitat distribution] It grows in cultivated land, wasteland, roadsides, streams, lakes and other wet places. It is distributed in most parts of the country.

[Chemical composition] The root tuber contains lactone components galenic acid and terpenoids. The rhizome contains 17% starch. The leaves and flowers contain kaempferol-3-galactoside.
