The efficacy and function of Xuejianchou

[Alias] Large-leaf Chenopodium album, mixed Chenopodium album (Northeast Medicinal Plants), mixed gray Chenopodium album, large-leaf gray vegetable (Heilongjiang Traditional Chinese Medicine), star anise gray vegetable (Handbook of Commonly Used Chinese Herbal Medicines in Northeast China).

[Source] It is the whole herb of Chenopodiaceae . Harvest from June to August, chop and dry.

[Original form] Annual herb, 80 to 100 cm tall. The stem is erect, with 5 sharp edges, bare, green, and sometimes with purple stripes. The leaves are alternate, large in shape, with a petiole 2 to 7 cm long; the leaf blade is triangular-ovate or ovate, 6 to 15 cm long, 5 to 13 cm wide, with a sharp tip, a slightly cordate base, a curved edge, 1 to 4 teeth on the seam, and smooth and hairless on both sides. The inflorescence is large, loosely conical, terminal or axillary; the tepals are 5, green, ovate, about 2 mm long, obtuse, covered with powdery particles, and with thick ridges on the back; the stamens are 5; the pistil is 1. The fruit is bean-shaped with flag-like pericarp. Seeds disc-shaped, flat-convex, with distinct dots, sharp edges, about 2 mm in diameter. Flowering period is from August to September. The fruiting period is from September to October.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in forest edge or wasteland. Distributed in Northeast China, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai and other places.

[Properties and flavors] "Handbook of Commonly Used Chinese Herbal Medicines in Northeast China": "sweet, neutral."

【Functions and indications】Hemostasis, blood circulation. Treat irregular menstruation, metrorrhagia, hemoptysis, epistaxis, hematuria, sores, carbuncles and swellings.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 1 to 3 qian; or boil into a paste.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat irregular menstruation: 1. 2 liang of fresh Trifoliate alpinia quinoa, decocted in water and taken orally. (Handbook of Commonly Used Chinese Herbal Medicines in Qinghai) ㈡ Whole herb of Chenopodium album. Boil the paste and take one to two coins each time, morning and evening. (Inner Mongolia Chinese Herbal Medicine)
