[Source] It is the whole herb of Astragalus membranaceus, a plant of the Leguminosae family . Collected in summer and autumn, cut into sections and dried.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 1 to 1.5 meters tall, with deep roots. The stem is erect, much branched, and sparsely pubescent. Leaves are sparse, odd-pinnate compound leaves, with 3 to 5 leaflets, rectangular or strip-rectangular, 8 to 15 mm long, 1 to 5 mm wide, truncated or slightly concave at the apex, cuneate at the base, with short soft hairs on both sides; rachis with short soft hairs; stipules lanceolate. The racemes are axillary, with many, small, sparsely distributed flowers; the peduncle is 2 to 6 cm long; the bracts are ovate-triangular; the calyx is campanulate, covered with short black and white hairs on the outside, 4.5 mm long, with 5 calyx teeth, triangular, about 0.5 mm long; the corolla is pink or white, the keel is purple, the standard petal has no claws, and is slightly longer than the wing petals and keel petals; the ovary is glabrous and sessile. The pod is small, nearly round, 2 to 3 mm long, and contains one seed. Flowering period is from June to July. Fruiting period is July to August.

[Habitat distribution] It grows beside hillside ditches or on riverbed sand, grass slopes, beaches, sandy gravel slopes, and sand dunes. Distributed in Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Shaanxi, Gansu and other places.
