The efficacy and function of Dicranopteris dichotoma

Dicranopteris dichotoma is a famous traditional Chinese medicinal material with a long history of application. Today we will learn about the bones of the ferns.

[Alias] Grass silvergrass, mountain silvergrass, mountain fern, betel grass, black fern (Fujian Folk Herbs), silvergrass (Southern Fujian Folk Herbs), and ferns. Road fern, chicken feather fern, fern fern, anti-fern leaf, centipede grass, hard fern, wolf fern, fern leaf grass (Hunan Materia Medica).

[Source] It is the young leaves or petioles of the Dicranopteris dichotoma of the Lepiocrata family. Available all year round.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 30 to 60 cm tall. The rhizome is horizontal, slender, brown-brown, and covered with brown scales and roots. Leaves are distal, petioles are brown-brown, glabrous; leaf blades are repeatedly pseudo-bifurcated, with pinnae (stipules) attached at each intersection, and pinnae bifurcated at the last bifurcation; pinnae are lanceolate or broadly lanceolate, 20-30 cm long, 4-7 cm wide, acuminate at the apex, and deeply lobed; lobes are long linear, 3.5-5 cm long, 4-6 mm wide, acuminate at the apex, obtuse, and slightly curled at the edges after drying; underside of leaf is white, and the rachis and rachis are covered with brown scales; veinlets are forked 2-3 times, with 3-4 veins in each group. The sporangium group is located in the middle of the veinlet, with 6 to 8 sporangia.

[Habitat distribution] Growing under forests or on acidic soil on hillsides. Distributed throughout the south of the Yangtze River.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, neutral.

【Functions and indications】Promote blood circulation, stop bleeding, relieve fever and act as a diuretic. Treats metrorrhagia, urethritis, traumatic bleeding and burns.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 5 qian. For external use: mash and apply.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat uterine bleeding in women: calcine the young shoots or the heart (pith) of the leaf stem of Dicranopteris dichotoma, grind into powder, take 2 to 5 qian each time with warm wine. ("Folk Herbs in Southern Fujian")
