[Source] It is the kernel of the mango , a plant of the Anacardiaceae family. After eating the mango, the kernels are collected and dried.

[Habitat distribution] Produced in Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.

[Properties] The dry fruit core is kidney-shaped or oval, flattened, about 6 to 10 cm long and 3 to 5 cm wide, light yellow or khaki on the outside, fibrous, rough and hard. After crushing, the endocarp is fibrous, with a smooth, light yellow, and lignified inner surface. The seed coat is papery, off-white, with 2 cotyledons, which are thick and dark brown. Slight smell, slightly astringent taste. The best ones are clean, dry and have thick kernels.

[Chemical composition] The kernel contains 5.2% fat, of which saturated glycerides account for 14%, monoolein 24%, diolein 61%, and triunsaturated glycerol less than 1%; its fatty acid composition is: stearic acid 34%, oleic acid 50%, as well as palmitic acid, arachidic acid and a small amount of myristic acid. It also contains sitosterol and a large amount of starch. The seeds contain hydrocyanic acid.

【Nature and flavor】 Sour and astringent, neutral.

【Functions and indications】 Treat hernia and food stagnation.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 2 to 3 pieces; or grind into powder.

[Additional prescriptions] ① For treating hernia and food stagnation in children: mango pits, longan pits, grapefruit pits, peach pits, and tangerine peel pits. Take it as a decoction. (Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Records)
