[Source] Medicinal material source: the roots and rhizomes of the grass family plant.

[Original form] Valley perennial herb, 1-1.5m tall. The fibrous roots are thicker, yellowish white, and about 3mm in diameter. The culms are stout, erect and clustered, with many branches and roots at the nodes at the base. Simple leaves are alternate; leaf blades are linear to lanceolate, 10-40cm long, 1-4cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, broadly cordate at the base, with thick and obvious midrib, bald on both sides, and rough edges; leaf sheaths are smooth, with glabrous sheath openings; ligules are hard, about 1mm long. The raceme has 1 to several branches, emerging from the upper leaf sheath, 3-8cm long; the male spikelets are arranged in an imbricate manner on each node of the spike axis, forming an upward or drooping raceme; the pistils are enclosed in a bony involucre; the involucre is ovate or nearly spherical, 8-10mm long and 6-8mm wide, shiny and hard when ripe, nearly white, gray or bluish purple. Flowering and fruiting period is from July to October.
