[Source] It is the whole herb of Medicago truncatula, a plant of the Leguminosae family .

[Original form] Annual or biennial herb. The stem is 30 to 60 cm high, procumbent or oblique, hairy or glabrous. Pinnate with 3 leaflets; leaflets obovate or broadly elliptic, 0.7-2 cm long, obtuse and slightly emarginate at the apex, broadly cuneate at the base, finely toothed at the top, with white soft hairs on both sides; stipules obliquely ovate, 5-12 mm long. 10 to 15 flowers are densely packed into capitula, axillary; pedicels are 1 to 3 cm long, with glandular hairs; flowers are butterfly-shaped, calyx is short, and calyx teeth are long; corolla is yellow, 1.5 to 2 mm long; stamens are 9 and 1; style is needle-shaped. The pod is kidney-shaped, about 2 mm long, thornless, turning black later, with longitudinal stripes, and containing one seed. Seeds yellowish brown.

【Chemical composition】 The whole plant contains estrogen-like ingredients. The seeds contain saponins, galactose and mannan. The pod contains 0.8% oil, 15.66% hard protein, 24.63% cellulose, 8.05% ash and 40.21% soluble carbohydrates.
