[Original form] Hairy-flowered camellia is an evergreen shrub, 1-5m tall. Young branches densely covered with straight, coarse hairs, old branches glabrous. Simple leaves are alternate; petiole is 3-6mm long, densely pubescent; leaf blade is leathery, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, 3-8cm long, 2.5-4.5cm wide, apex acuminate or long-tailed, base cuneate, broadly cuneate or nearly rounded, margin with fine blunt serrations, glabrous above except for midrib, often with closely attached long pubescence and raised hair marks below, veins more prominent below. Flowers are bisexual, solitary in leaf axils or 2 flowers born near branch tops; flowers are white or bluish purple, about 3.5 cm in diameter; pedicels are stout, 3-4 mm long; bracteoles are 5, densely covered with coarse long soft hairs as well as sepals, and all are persistent; calyx is cup-shaped, with 5 lobes, nearly semicircular; petals vary in size and shape; stamens are numerous, glabrous; ovary is superior, glabrous, style is 1, slender, and stigma is 3-lobed. The capsule is nearly spherical, with a diameter of about 1.8 cm. The flowering period is March and the fruiting period is October.
