[Original morphology] The body is laterally flattened and spindle-shaped, with a narrow abdomen and a well-developed abdominal ridge from the chest to the anus. The distance between eyes increases relatively with the growth of the individual; the head length and eye diameter decrease relatively with the growth of the individual. The head is large, about 1/4 of the body length. The snout is short, blunt and round; the mouth is very wide. The eyes are small and located below the median axis of the head. There is one row of hypopharyngeal teeth, which are flat and ladle-shaped. The gill rakers are united into porous membranous plates with spiral suprabranchial apparatus. The scales are small, with 108 to 120 scales on the lateral line. Dorsal fin III7, without spines, starting point behind the pelvic fin. Anal fin III12～13. The tail fin is forked. The back and upper part of the head are gray-green, and the sides and belly are silvery white. Dorsal and caudal fins the same color as the back. The other fins are light in color and slightly yellowish.
