[Original form] Fragrance of the roots, annual herb, less than 20cm tall. Stems erect or spreading, sparsely hairy. Leaves are alternate; with short petioles or almost sessile; leaf blades are linear or narrowly lanceolate, 1-2.5cm long, 1-3mm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, gradually narrowed at the base, with sparse wavy teeth on the margin, sparsely covered with short rough hairs, with inconspicuous lateral veins, and an auricle on each side of the leaves near the base of the upper stem. Flowers are solitary in leaf axils, yellow; calyx is fused to ovary, with 5 lobes, lanceolate, about twice as long as the calyx tube; corolla is about 1 cm long, hairy on the outside, short, and split on one side to the base; stamens are 5, separate, filaments less than 2 mm long, anthers with short tips; ovary is inferior, 2-chambered, style is 3-lobed, branch tips have bowl-shaped protrusions, and each chamber has several ovules. Capsule 2-lobed, each locule containing many seeds. It blooms and bears fruit in summer and autumn.
