[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb with roots of the Acanthaceae plant Lepidium melongena.

[Original form] Lepidium, perennial herb, 30-60cm tall. The stem is erect or prostrate at the bottom, square, much branched, and the nodes are slightly swollen. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 5-10mm long; leaf blade is ovate to oblong-lanceolate, 4-8cm long, 1-3.5cm wide, with short pointed tip, cuneate or nearly circular base, entire, wavy, with small lines of needle-like crystals on both sides. The flowers are small, in terminal or axillary dense spikes, cylindrical, 1.5-2.5cm long, solitary or several clusters, the flowers are often biased to one side of the inflorescence, and are pubescent; the bracts are leaf-like, narrowly lanceolate, about 8mm long, with a sharp tip and 1 vein; the calyx is deeply lobed into 5 parts, the outermost lobe is larger, linear-lanceolate, about 6mm long, with eyelashes; the corolla is white and tubular, swollen at the top, the crown brim is 2-lipped, the flower is about 10mm long, the upper lip is slightly lobed, and the lower lip is 3-lobed; there are 4 stamens, 2 long and 2 short, and the anthers are 2-chambered, obliquely stacked. The capsule is about 5 mm long and contains 4 seeds. The flowering period is from November to December to March of the following year.
