[Original morphology] The body is long, laterally flattened, especially in the posterior part, with a straight back and a slightly convex ventral edge. The body length is about 15 to 30 centimeters. The head is small, the snout is short, the tip is slightly rounded and blunt, and it protrudes forward. The mouth is large, positioned inferiorly, with an inclined oral fissure. The rear end of the upper jaw is free and extends backward to the base of the pectoral fin. There are fine teeth on the upper and lower jaws, the oral operculum, and the hoe. The whole body is covered with thin and transparent round scales, without lateral line; there are 74 to 84 vertical rows of scales on the side of the body, and 11 horizontal rows of scales. There are ridged scales on the abdomen, with 16 to 22 in front of the pelvic fin and 29 to 36 behind the pelvic fin. The dorsal fin has 11 to 13 in length, and its starting point is relatively close to the tip of the snout. The first six pectoral fin rays are elongated and free-threaded, with the tip reaching the starting point of the anal fin. Anal fin I, 96-115, is more than half of the body length. The pelvic and caudal fins are very small, and the lower part of the caudal fin is connected to the rear end of the anal fin.
