[Source] Coriaria sinica Maxim., a plant of the genus Coriaria in the family Coriariaceae, is used as medicine with its roots and leaves . The roots are dug up in winter, the skin is scraped off and they are sun-dried; the leaves are harvested in summer and sun-dried.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, pungent, cold. Highly toxic.

【Functions and indications】 Dispel wind and dampness, relieve pain, and kill insects. Roots: used for lymph node tuberculosis, bruises, rabies bites, rheumatic joint pain; Leaves: used externally to treat burns, tinea capitis, eczema, sores and swelling.

[Usage and Dosage] 1 qian; for external use, appropriate amount, decocted in water or used for external washing or application. Because it is highly toxic, it is generally only used externally.

【Note】 Pregnant women, children and people with weak constitution are prohibited from taking it internally.

[Remarks] (1) Coriaria is highly toxic. Symptoms of poisoning include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, convulsions, clenched jaw, urinary incontinence, cyanosis of the skin, upward fixed eyeballs, and constricted pupils. Rescue method: If convulsions occur, 0.1 g of phenobarbital sodium can be injected intramuscularly, 10% chloral hydrate enema, glucose solution can be injected intravenously, or glucose saline can be dripped intravenously; after the convulsions are controlled, gastric lavage, catharsis, egg white administration, etc. can be considered.
