【Other name】 Small-leaved mulberry root

[Source] Medicinal material source: the root or root bark of Morus alba.

[Original form] Deciduous shrub or small tree, up to 15m tall. The branches are spreading and glabrous; the bark is gray-brown and longitudinally cracked. Simple leaves are alternate, papery, ovate, 6-15cm long, 4-10cm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, truncate or nearly cordate base, coarsely serrated margins, sometimes 3-5 lobed, with short hairs on both sides; stipules fall off early. Spike inflorescence grows in the leaf axils of new branches; flowers are unisexual and dioecious; male tepals and stamens are both 5, and the sterile pistil is gyroid; female stigma is 2-lobed and equal in length to the style and persistent. The aggregate fruit is dark purple when ripe.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in limestone hillside forests.

[Chemical composition] The root bark contains about 0.07% volatile oil, as well as daucosterol, resinotannol, α and β-amyrin, sitosterol, stearic acid and palmitic acid.
