[Source] Medicinal material source: branches and leaves of the golden flower tree of the Melastomataceae family.

【Original form】 Shrub, about 1m high. The stem is cylindrical and has many branches. The young branches, petioles, leaves, and inflorescences are densely covered with rusty fine hairs and yellow sparse glandular dots. Leaves opposite; petiole 1-2cm long; leaf blade papery, ovate or broadly ovate, 6.5-25cm, 3-10cm wide, apex acuminate, base obtuse to cordate, entire or with fine wavy teeth, leaf surface glabrous, abaxially hairy; 5 (-7) basal veins, abaxial lateral veins raised, veinlets reticulate, covered with small yellow glandular dots. Flowers bisexual, 4-merous; panicle composed of cymes, terminal; pedicel about 2mm long; calyx funnel-shaped, with 4 edges, about 3mm long, with small glandular dots, lobes reflexed, ovate or elliptic-ovate, about 1.5mm long; petals pink to rose or red, ovate, about 3.5mm long; filaments about 6mm long, anthers linear, curved, with inconspicuous tubercles at the base, about 5mm long, connective slightly extended into a tubercular short spur; ovary semi-inferior or inferior, ovate, with 4 small protrusions at the apex. The capsule is elliptical, with 4 longitudinal cracks, and is covered by a persistent calyx with a truncate tip and crowned with persistent sepals, which have 4 edges and are covered with small glandular dots. The flowering period is June-July, and the fruiting period is September-November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in valleys at 230-1520m above sea level, in places with fertile soil under sparse and dense forests on hillsides, by streams or roadsides.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The stem is cylindrical, 1-5mm in diameter, brown in color, and hairless. Young stems have brown rusty glandular peltate scales. The leaves are opposite, ovate-lanceolate, elliptic-acicular to ovate when unfolded, 8-15cm long, 3-7cm wide, shallowly cordate at the base, gradually pointed at the apex, and sometimes with inconspicuous sparse and fine teeth on the edges.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; Cool

【Functions and indications】Dispel wind; promote dampness removal; stop bleeding; detoxify. It is used for rheumatic pain, damp-heat diarrhea, constipation, traumatic injury, traumatic bleeding, sores and furuncle.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 6-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount, mash and apply on the affected area, grind into powder or decoct in water for washing.
