[Source] Medicinal material source: leaves and bark of Pinus truncatula, a plant of the Pinaceae family.

[Original form] Evergreen tree, up to 30m tall, with a chest circumference of 1m. The bark is light brown when young and does not peel, but dark brown with shallow linear fissures when old; the branches are flat; the annual branches are light yellow-gray or light yellow-brown, hairless and shiny; the winter buds are oval and resinous. The leaves are linear, 2-4 cm long, 1.5-2.5 mm wide, hard, straight or sickle-shaped, with an acute or acuminate tip, unbranched, and a white stomatal band on each side of the midrib below. Leaves growing on fruit branches usually have 2-5 irregular stomatal lines on the upper middle part or near the tip of the leaf surface. Monoecious, both borne on two-year-old branches; male cones are cylindrical, borne in leaf axils, drooping, about 15mm long, and yellow-green; female cones are oblong, upright, about 35mm long, light green, and borne at the top of branches. The cones are cylindrical, 6-14cm long, 3.5-4cm in diameter, nearly sessile, with kidney-shaped fan-shaped fruit scales, about 1.5cm long and 3cm wide; the bract scales are short, less than half the length of the seed scales, and are not exposed. The seeds are inverted or skewed triangular, 8-9mm long, with broad, light brown wings that are longer than the seeds. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruit ripening period is September-October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: mid-mountainous areas with an altitude of 500-1200m.

[Properties] Identification by properties: The outer surface of the bark is gray-brown or white-brown when young and does not peel; when old, it is dark brown, shallowly cracked, and the inner surface is gray-white. The leaves are linear, 2-4cm long and 1.5-2.5mm wide. The apex is prominent or acuminate, hard, and the resin tube is borne in the leaves. The bark has a faint odor and a slightly bitter taste. The leaves have a faint odor and a light taste.

[Usage and Dosage] For external use: take appropriate amount, soak in water at about 60℃ for fumigation.
