[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Glehnia littoralis, a plant of the Primulaceae family.

[Original form] Perennial herb. The stems are clustered, erect or sometimes procumbent at the base with roots, 10-30(-45)cm high, simple or branched near the base, and covered with brown multicellular pubescence. Leaves are opposite; petioles are 1-2.5cm long, densely pubescent; leaves at the lower part of the stem are smaller, often rounded, and leaves at the upper part of the stem are larger. The 2 pairs of leaves at the stem end are very shortly spaced and densely gathered in whorls. The leaf blades are ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 3.5-11cm long and 1-5.5cm wide, with acute or obtuse apex, cuneate or nearly rounded base, ciliate margins, and both sides are covered with rough hairs, which are extremely dense or sometimes sparse, densely covered with black glandular strips and glandular dots, and the lateral veins are slender and not obvious. The raceme is terminal and shortened to a nearly capitate shape; the rachis of the inflorescence is extremely short or up to 1 cm long; the bracts are broadly elliptic or broadly obovate, 6-25 mm long, 5-14 mm wide, obtuse at the apex, gradually narrow at the base, and densely strigose; the pedicel is 2-3 mm long and densely pubescent; the calyx is 6-8 mm long, 5-lobed, splitting nearly to the base, the lobes are narrowly lanceolate, with membranous margins, hairy on the back, and with black glandular strips; the corolla is yellow, 10-15 mm long, the basal connate part is 3-5 mm long, the apex is 5-lobed, the lobes are lanceolate, the apex is obtuse or acute, and densely covered with black glandular strips; there are 5 stamens, the lower part of the filaments is connate into a tube 2.5-3.5 mm high, covered with glandular hairs, the separated part is 3-5 mm long, and the anther is oblong, about 1.5 mm long. The capsule is nearly spherical, brown, and 4-5mm in diameter. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is June-August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in valley streams, ditch wetlands, under forests and in thickets at an altitude of 220-900m.

【Properties】 Characteristic identification: The stem is 15-45cm long and densely covered with brown soft hairs. Leaves are opposite, with the two pairs at the top densely gathered in whorls. The leaves are mostly wrinkled, and when flattened, they are ovate or ovate-lanceolate, 3.5-11cm long, 1.5-5.5cm wide, with sharp or slightly obtuse tips, gradually narrowing bases, and covered with soft hairs and densely covered with black glandular strips and glandular dots on both sides. There are many flowers, concentrated at the top of the stem and densely clustered into a head. The corolla is yellow, with ovate-lanceolate lobes. The capsule is nearly spherical, brown, and about 5mm in diameter.
