[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Viola glabra, a plant of the Violaceae family.

[Original morphology] Perennial herb without above-ground stems. The rhizome is up to 8 cm long, vertical, and green. The stolons are slender, extending, and topped with lotus-shaped leaves. Leaves are basal, often in a rosette or alternate on creeping branches; petioles are glabrous, winged, 1-3.5 cm long; stipules are mostly free, with only the base fused to the petiole, with a long and gradually pointed tip, sparsely fringed teeth on the margin, and glabrous; leaf blades are ovate or elliptical, 1.5-2.5 cm long, with obtuse or slightly pointed apex, broadly cuneate or nearly circular base, extending down along the petiole, with fine rounded edges, and glabrous on both sides. The flowers are small, lavender, with slender pedicels that emerge from the leaf axils, 3-8cm long, with two opposite linear bracteoles slightly above the middle; sepals are lanceolate, with white membranous edges, and the base appendages are truncate and sparsely toothed; there are obvious claws at the base of the petals, and the spurs of the petals below are short and shallowly sac-shaped; the spurs of the stamens below are shorter, slightly shorter than the anthers; the ovary is glabrous, the base of the style is slightly geniculate, the stigma is 2-lobed, and the tip of the beak has a fine stigmatic hole. The capsule is oblong, 6-7mm long, slightly longer than the persistent sepals, pointed at the apex, and glabrous. Flowering and fruiting period is from March to May.
