[Source] It is the flower or root of the Lythraceae plant.

[Original form] Deciduous shrub or small tree, 2 to 8 meters high; bark is white. Leaves are opposite or nearly opposite, alternate in the upper part, oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 4-8 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, and entire. The panicle is terminal, and the axis of the inflorescence is slightly pubescent; the flowers are white, about 1 cm in diameter; the calyx is hemispherical, with 10 to 12 slightly raised longitudinal ribs on the outside, glabrous, and 5 to 6 shallow lobes at the apex; the petals are 5 to 6, nearly round, wrinkled, with irregular notches on the edges and long claws at the base; the stamens are numerous, born at the base of the calyx tube, and the outer 5 are usually longer; the ovary is superior. The capsule is nearly elliptical or ovate-elliptical, with 4 to 5 valve lobes and a diameter of about 7 mm. Flowering period is from June to July.

[Habitat distribution] Distributed in Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan and other places.

[Chemical composition] The wood contains 10.29% moisture, 1.11% ash, 0.149% total nitrogen, 29.91% lignin, 51.01% cellulose, and 16.80% pentosan.
