[Original form] Longchangcao is a perennial herb. The base has a short rhizome and scaly buds, and the fibrous roots are thin and weak. The culm is erect, thin or relatively thick, 70-120cm high, with 5-6 nodes, rough internodes, and fine hairs below the nodes. The leaf sheath is shorter than the internode and densely covered with fine hairs; the ligule is thick, about 1mm long, with a flat or irregular toothed tip; the leaves are flat and thin, linear-lanceolate, rough on the underside, usually densely covered with short hairs on the upper side, 15-30cm long and 6-20mm wide. The panicle is 12-20 cm long. The branches are erect and attached to the main axis, most of them are twinned at the base. The main branches are up to 7 cm long, usually no longer branched, and each has 27 spikelets; the spikelets contain 2-3 florets, 4.5-7mm long, and the spikelet axis has fine hairs on the internodes, about 1.8mm long; the glumes are membranous, the first glumes are 1.5-2mm long and have 1 vein, the second glumes are 2-3mm long and have 1-3 veins; the first lemma is 4.5-5mm long, with 3 obvious veins, slightly rough on the veins, the palea is nearly equal in length to the lemma, and the upper part of the ridge is ciliated; the caryopsis is about 4mm long, dark brown, and its tapered tip is creamy yellow. Flowering and fruiting period is from June to September.
