[Source] Medicinal material source: The leaves of the plant Solanum melongena of the Ericaceae family.

[Original form] Evergreen shrub or small tree, 2-4m high. The bark is brown, the twigs are spreading and glabrous; the winter buds are obovate, with 3-8 bud scales arranged in a shingle-like manner. Leaves are densely packed at the top of branches; petioles are 3-8mm long, with deep grooves on the ventral surface; leaf blades are leathery, elliptic-lanceolate, or oblanceolate, 3-8cm long, 1-2cm wide, with short acuminate apex, narrow cuneate base, more than 2/3 of the margin with fine round teeth, rarely nearly entire, dark green and shiny on the surface, light green on the back, main veins raised on both sides, lateral veins sunken on the surface, not obvious on the back, and reticular veins. The racemes or panicles are terminal or axillary, clustered at the top of the branches, 8-14 cm long, with soft hairs on the inflorescence axis; sepals are triangular-ovate, about 3.5 mm long; the corolla is white, urn-shaped, with 5 shallow lobes at the top, and the lobes are nearly round; there are 10 stamens, and the filaments are long and soft; there is 1 ovary, which is nearly spherical, with a slender style and a capitate stigma. The capsule is nearly oblate, 3-5mm in diameter, dehiscent at the back of the locules, with calyx and style persistent. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is July-September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in sparse forests on hillsides at an altitude of 800-1200m, in thickets at the edge of forests and beside stream valleys.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain asebotoxin, ase betin, asebouercitrin, taraxerol, etc.

【Functions and indications】Insecticidal. Primary scabies

【Usage and Dosage】 For external use: take appropriate amount, decoct in water for washing, and apply the residue.
