[Source] It is the rhizome of Panax notoginseng, a plant of the ginger family. Available all year round.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 15 to 35 cm high. The rhizome is round or oval, brown on the surface, with membranous leaf sheaths, fragrant and spicy. The leaves are usually clustered in 2 to 3 pieces, with long petioles, papery, oblong, pointed at the apex, narrowly cuneate at the base, glabrous on both sides, and slightly protruding veins on the upper side. Flowers white with yellow.

[Habitat distribution] It grows wild in the shady and wet places beside valleys and ditches; it is also cultivated.
